Mystery at The Cave By Glenn Collins Tuesday, June 19, 2012 | 12:25 AM
Haleyville Police Chief Kyle Reogas searches for evidence outside The Cave Monday night.

Haleyville Police and the District Attorney's Office are trying to determine what happened to 35-year-old Rickey Lee Cowens Jr. Cowens was last seen sometime between 7:30 PM and 8:45 PM Monday night at The Cave, where he was working alone. Police arrived shortly before 9 PM, just after another employee had arrived and locked the front door. A search of the building proved it to be empty. Cowens, his car, and the cash are missing. Police are not speculating as to what happened.

Police issued a nationwide BOLO for a 1999 Silver Mercury Cougar with Alabama tag 49B78P1. That was the car Cowens was driving. Its whereabouts are also unknown.

Just before midnight, police brought a person of interest from Quarter Creek to headquarters for interviewing.

Anyone who saw, or has seen, Cowens, or was in the store between 7:30 PM and 9:45 PM should contact Haleyville Police.

Police released the crime scene and The Cave will re-open Tuesday.
