Council Gives Break to Liquor Stores By Glenn Collins Tuesday, February 7, 2012 | 6:02 AM

In a move that was listed on the Agenda as a simple discussion Monday night, the Haleyville City Council voted to lower the general liability requirements of alcohol licensees from $1,000,000 to $100,000. Some store owners have been asking for a reduction in the insurance requirement. They have also asked the Council to reduce the the City's surchage on liquor. That was not discussed at this meeting.

In other action, the Council approved the Alcohol License for Dollar General #2599 on Highway 13; gave the go ahead to the Street Department to write bids and specifications for a new garbage truck; approved advertising for a part-time senior center driver; and tapped Cassady Company as the engineer for the old school demolition project.

The Council also changed its next meeting due to the Presidents' Day Holiday. The Council meets again on Tuesday, February 21, 7 PM, at City Hall.
