Each year, Haleyville High School fields some of the best athletic teams in the state.  Obviously, great coaches and committed players make it happen.  There is, however, another element that is often overlooked yet is behind every successful team … supporters.  Not just those who choose to attend games and give opinions on how things should be done, but those who give of their time and money to make certain all of our athletes and the facilities on which they play are something that will make Haleyville proud.  We have great facilities, but there is always work to be done.  Maintaining what we have, while continuing to make improvements each year takes not only money but volunteers.  In addition to facilities, there is always a need for equipment.  With the continual loss of funding for public education (over $2 million dollars the past two years alone for Haleyville City Schools) our young people will need to turn to us to support them and make certain that they have everything they need to be successful and represent HHS with pride.

One way we can do this is through the booster club. Haleyville High School has a booster club that supports all sports.  Many of you may have been involved in the past and no longer participate.  We have many supporters who work extremely hard to give the best to our student-athletes; but are not members.  At the current time we have only 42 members.  This is an extremely low number in relation to those who are involved.  Even if you don’t have children in school or maybe they are too young to be involved on the high school level, you can still get involved.  Alumni should also get involved.  This is still your school and you will always be a part of the Haleyville tradition.  We have so much pride in our community; yet participation is simply not enough for Haleyville.  The current officers of the Haleyville Boosters are Kris Burleson (President), Clyde Putman (Treasurer), and Tammy Bailey (Secretary).  If you have had problems or issues in the past, we are asking for those to be placed aside and join together to make HHS the best it can be.

The Haleyville Booster Club spent over $27,000 last year on athletic support.  These financial records are public and are shared at each meeting.  Many of us have children who are involved and should join and continue to work to give our athletes the best possible.  What about those children who have no advocate?  Those who have no one who will work for them?  We have an obligation for those children as well.

So why join?  It’s simple, strength in numbers!  We may not always agree, but there is no question that any organization can become stronger by being open-minded and willing to draw from its members’ strengths.  Over the next two weeks, our Booster Club will be having a major membership drive.  I want to ask everyone involved in this community to become involved in this organization.  The cost is only $20 per family per year.  Membership forms are enclosed and if you are interested, please return with a check to either the HHS or HMS office.  Thank you for your consideration of all students.  We look forward to working with you!
