The Haleyville City Council met Monday evening with all members present. The Council approved a grant request (Resolution 2015-38) for $499,152.00 for airport improvement funding assistance from the State of Alabama Department of Transportation. This money will be used to build new airplane hangers and other improvements. The City will be required to provide $24,958.00 in matching funds. This is the second year the city has applied for essentially, the same grant, which was approved last year, but was not enough for the low bid on the project. The two year's grants will be additive and enough to fully fund the project this time.
The council approved Resolution 2015-39 awarding $15,000 to Robinson & Sons Construction Company of Haleyville for an agreement to install water and irrigation materials for the new sports complex. Resolution 2015-40 was also approved for $9,500 to fund the purchase of 300 tons of crushed stone for a construction road from the old 9th Avenue to the location of the new concessions building. This rock base will be later used as a foundation for the planned road into the park.
With Resolution 2015-41, the council approved the purchase of a new limb/brush truck for the city from Sansom Equipment Company.
After discussing recommendations from the Airport Advisory Board, hanger rental rates were set at $125/mo for an enclosed hanger space and $75/mo for open hangers.
Mayor Sunseri announced the Veterans Parade this Saturday morning downtown Haleyville at 10 a.m. Lineup starts at 9 a.m.
The next regular city council meeting will be Monday, November 16 at 5:30 at the Neighborhood Facilities Building.
