BEAR CREEK - Do you love to play softball? Saturday, June 27, is your opportunity to do something you love and help with a good cause at the same time. The Haleyville Rotary Club is sponsoring a co-ed softball tournament to raise money for scholarships. The club annually awards scholarships in May to graduating Haleyville High School seniors.
The slow pitch double elimination tournament will be held at Twin Forks Park, beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday. Cost is $125 per 12-member team. Teams must provide their own softballs with 11-inch for the women and 12-inch for the men. The balls must be 375/.44 core. The ratio will be eight men and four women. Each team will also be responsible for $10 per game for an umpiring fee. There will be a three homerun limit. Teams may purchase up to three homeruns for $5 each prior to the start of a game. After that each home run serves as an out.
A strict one hour time limit is imposed or six innings. The count begins with one ball and one strike. One foul ball is allowed on the third strike.
Outfield must stay behind the 150 foot line when a female is batting. When a male is walked, the next female in the lineup must be walked.
Mercy rule includes 20 after three innings, 15 after four innings and 10 after five innings.
The first eight teams will be accepted. You may call 205-486-9461 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. to register or any Rotary Club member.
Concessions will be available and T-shirts will be awarded to the winning team.
Come out Saturday, June 27, for a day of fun and help a good cause.
