Haleyville Board of Education

The Haleyville Board of Education met Tuesday and approved the expenditures for March in the amount of $1,273,00 7.44. Also, under old business the board approved May 15 as Athletic Physical Day at Haleyville High School. Any athlete in the Haleyville City School System or from surrounding systems may obtain a physical for a fee of $10.

Approval was made for the Halevyille Elementary Cafeteria to be used by the HHS Band Boosters for the band banquet on May 2, The Winston County Sports Hall of Fame awards banquet on July 18 and the Haleyville Alumni Luncheon on June 6.

Out of state travel was approved for Neina Middleton to travel to New Orleans in June for to attend the Marketing Education Association Hospitality and Tourism Summit.

The following personnel actions were approved: The resignation of Joshua Ryan Dobbins as physical education teacher; family medical leave of Dana Williams to begin March 17 through May 22; and the hiring of Christy McCombs as lunchroom manager at HES effective August 7.

HHS principal Holly Sutherland announced the senior trip will leave on Saturday, May 9 for Washington and New York. Christian Edwards and Tyler McDonald have signed contracts to go to work for Caterpillar and will be attending the THINK BIG program where they will be earning their degree while working for Caterpillar. Parker Farris and Tyler McDonald have been accepted to the Toyota TTEN and will be earning their degree while attending Lawson State. Tyler and Jared both have received over $20,000 each in college scholarships and each received over $1,500 in tools each for their second place finish. In the Welding Department, 59 students tested for AWS certification. 48 passed and certified.

The next Haleyville Board of Education meeting will be May 19.
