A double axle 4200 gallon tanker had just loaded used oil from a diesel repair shop in the Needmore Community Monday afternoon around 3 p.m. when an embankment gave way on a narrow road leading from the shop. As a result, the truck landed on its side breaking the tank away from the truck. The driver was not injured, but the incident did cause a a couple of problems.

First, the truck could not be uprighted until the oill was pumped into another truck. Getting the truck upright took the effort of two large wreckers from Lyle's wrecker service. Secondly, the position of the truck caused some spillage into the wet ground underneath the truck. A special environmental crew and equipment were brought in from Birmingham to remove the small amount of soil which contained the spilled petroleum. A track hoe was also brought in to remove the contaminated soil.

Haleyville firemen stood by while the recovery took place just in case the situation had became a bigger problem which was not the case.
