Lions Cage the Hawks

The Haleyville Lions secured a position in the first round of the Alabama High School Athletic Association Playoff Games Friday night with a big win over Danville High School. Here’s a look at the scoring drives from Friday night.

The first half was all Haleyville, as the Lions led 49-0 at the half. During the first quarter, QB Conner Kiser scored on a 14 yard run, and Reyes added the extra point to take the Lions up by 7 with 11:25 remaining in the quarter. Next, Kiser threw to Jonas Dodd who scored on a 15 yard pass, and Reyes added the extra to give the Lions a 14 point lead with 10:03 on the clock in the first quarter. Brady Sherrill then scored on an 8 yard run, and Reyes completed the point after attempt to give the Lions a 21 point lead with 6:41 remaining in the opening quarter. The final score of the first quarter came on a Kiser to Dodd 22 yard pass. Reyes again added the extra, leaving the Lions with a 28-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the action started for the Lions with a Kiser to Dillon Posey 19 yard pass to add 6. Reyes added the extra, and the Lions led by 35 with 7:51 remaining in the half. Next, Sherrill broke free on a 49 yard touchdown run, and Reyes completed the extra point. The Lions led by 42 with 5:12 remaining in the first half of play. The final scoring drive of the half came with :01 left on the clock with a Kiser to Posey 41 yard pass. Reyes again completed the extra point, and the Haleyville Lions entered halftime with a 49-0 lead over the Danville Hawks.

The third quarter action began with the first touchdown of the evening for Danville on a Kane Hogan 6 yard run. Jape kicked for the extra point, and Danville was on the board with 7 with 9:30 remaining in the third quarter. Will Evans added the next 6 for Haleyville on a 2 yard run. Reyes completed the extra point, and the Lions extended their lead 56-7. Danville answered with a Peyton Colburn 5 yard TD run, but the point after attempt failed. Danville trailed Haleyville 56-13 with 6:42 remaining in the third. Evans scored on another 12 yard touchdown run, and Reyes added the extra point. The Lions led 63-13 with 1:12 remaining in the third quarter. The only scoring drive of the fourth quarter came on a Hogan 10 yard run for Danville. The two point conversion failed again, and the Lions captured the 63-19 victory.
