Kay Townsend, who has worked as a Winston County 9-1-1 dispatcher since 1998, and later as the assistant 9-1-1 Director, was terminated by the Winston County 9-1-1 Board following a public hearing Monday night. Tim Webb, Winston County 9-1-1 Director, testified that Townsend, over a period of time, had not performed her duties as required and had many days of unexcused absences from work. Scott Shipman, attorney for Mrs. Townsend, suggested the opinion of Webb could have been motivated by the State Ethics Commission's investigation of Webb. It was brought out that Townsend did cooperate with the Ethics Commission's investigation and gave them information which could be used against Webb. According to documents presented at the hearing, the Commission did recommend charges of misuse of his office be brought against Webb, but as of this date, that has not happened. The board heard the testimony from Webb, Mrs. Townsend, and several witnesses before voting to terminate the employment of Mrs. Townsend. |
