The Haleyville Lions Club is sponsoring a backpack drive for children affected by the tornadoes in Oklahoma. This project began in Alabama after the April 2011 tornadoes and has been used to assist with recovery following all major tornadoes since that time. The backpacks will be given out in Oklahoma schools and hospitals to children in need who were affected by the tornadoes. Donations of new or gently used backpacks, toys, children's clothing, and school supplies are being collected for this project. You can drop off your donations at the First National Bank, Banks BBQ, and the Downtown Traders and Farmers Bank. The deadline for these donations will be Friday, June 28 at 5:00 p.m.
