The Newtown (Conn.) mass murder was on many minds at Tuesday's Haleyville Board of Education meeting. Superintendent Alan Miller said, “I want to re-assure the public … that we're doing everything we should to have an appropriate (safety) plan in place.”

Dr. Miller said that he had been in contact with City and County officials and that those officials, as well as system employees, are re-familiarizing themselves with the system's safety plans.

The Board approved Newell Paper Company's bid for copier paper, as follows: $27.95 per case for letter and $39.90 for legal, effective January 1 through June 30.

Jamie White's hiring as drafting and design teacher at HCT was approved, effective December 19 through the remainder of the school year.

The price of 8-oz tea was raised from 25-cents to 75-cents.

Two pieces of equipment were delcared surplus and to be sold by bid: a Chefmate Manual Meat Slicer and a Pitco Frialator.

The Student Athletics Handbook was amended in reference to physical therapy.

The next meeting of the Board is Tuesday, January 22, 7 PM.
