The City Council Monday night voted to apply for a federal grant of $989,142.00, available through the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program, to repair drainage and re-surface the streets in three subdivisions. The City's match for the almost $1 million project would be $197,828.40 and would fix drainage problems and re-surface the streets in the Briarwood, Hilltop and Meadowlark subdivisions. The projects now wait for the grant application and awarding process.
In other action, the Council voted to renew the City's liability insurance policy with the Alabama Municipal Insurance Corporation at a cost of $118,000; and approved the purchase of a new vehicle for the Fire Chief from the government's surplus equipment inventory, the purchase not to exceed $15,000.
The next meeting of the Council is Monday, April 16, 2012, 7 PM, City Hall.
