Alma Rose Barber, a 10<\/span>th<\/sup><\/span> grader at Haleyville High School was recently accepted into the Auburn University 2017 Vet Camp for high school students that will take place in June. Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine receives close to one thousand applications every year of which about 45 students are selected from all over the country.\u00a0 <\/span>Alma has previously attended Vet camp at Mississippi State and plans to attend either Auburn University or Mississippi State University to become a Veterinarian. <\/span><\/p>\n

Alma Rose is a member of the National Honor Society, Junior Civitan Club, and a host of other clubs. She is a member of the Haleyville JV Softball team and is an avid barrel racer with her horse Addicus. She is the daughter of Chester and Kathy Barber and the granddaughter of Bill and Jewel Lakeman and the late Alma and Lewis Barber.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lewis Barber, a 7th-grade student at Haleyville Middle School has been chosen as one of two students to represent the 4<\/span>th<\/sup><\/span> Alabama district this summer at Space Camp in Huntsville. He will receive a full scholarship for the week long SALSA program. Space Academy for Leading Students in Alabama (SALSA) is a program funded by the State of Alabama Legislature that awards a male and female student between the ages of 12 to 14 in the Fall of 2016, from every legislative district in Alabama a scholarship to attend a special session of Space Academy at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville Alabama. Since 1982, Space Camp has inspired more than 700,000 young men and women from around the world to engage in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, while exposing them to the leadership and teamwork skills that helped them succeed in their careers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lewis is a member of the National Junior Honor Society, Haleyville Middle School Band, HMS Baseball Team and HHS Varsity Cross Country Team.\u00a0 <\/span>He is the son of Chester and Kathy Barber and the grandson of Bill and Jewel Lakeman and the late Mrs. Alma Barber and Mr. Lewis Barber, all of <\/span>Haleyville.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
