The meeting was rescheduled from Monday in order to certify the results of the Haleyville School Board.<\/p>\n<p>The Council approved the June general operation bills and purchase orders in the amount $711,163.81. Also approved a resolution pertaining to he Opiod lawsuit settlement, which can be see below. The next scheduled Council meeting will be Monday, August 1, 5:0 PM at the Haleyville City Hall.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>RESOLUTION #2022-35<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><b> WHEREAS, <\/b>the general election for the City of Haleyville was duly and legally held on July 12, 2022 as provided by law, and<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><b>WHEREAS, <\/b>the municipal governing body for the City of Haleyville met on the 19th <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>day of July 2022, all members thereof being present (or a quorum thereof being present), at 9:30 a.m., and has canvassed the returns, and has ascertained and determined the number of votes received by each candidate, and<span \u201cBoo\u201d Haughton<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b><i> <\/i>received a majority of the votes cast for the office of <b>School Board Member<\/b> <b>Place No. 2 <\/b>and is hereby declared duly elected to that office for the term beginning immediately.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol class=\"ol1\">\n<li class=\"li4\">That <b><i>Brian \u201cThumper\u201d Vickery<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b><i> <\/i>received a majority of the votes cast for the office of <b>School Board Member<\/b> <b>Place No. 4 <\/b>and is hereby declared duly elected to that office for the term at the first meeting in March 2023.<\/li>\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>RESOLUTION #2022-36<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><b> <\/b>A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF HALEYVILLE TO JOIN THE STATE OF ALABAMA AND OTHER LOCAL GOVERNMENTS AS PARTICIPANTS IN CURRENT AND FUTURE OPIOID SETTLEMENTS<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">WHEREAS, the opioid epidemic continues to impact communities in the United States, the State of Alabama, and the City of Haleyville, Alabama.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">WHEREAS, the City of Haleyville has suffered harm and will continue to suffer harm as a result of the opioid epidemic;<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">WHEREAS, the State of Alabama and some Alabama local governments have filed lawsuits against opioid manufacturers, distributors, and retailers (\u201cOpioid Litigation\u201d);<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">WHEREAS, the State of Alabama has entered into various Settlement Agreements and are likely to enter into additional agreements in the future which include the claims for the State of Alabama\u2019s local governments;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">WHEREAS the City of Haleyville finds the terms of the current Settlement Agreements acceptable and in the best interest of the community and anticipates the terms of the future Settlement Agreements to be similarly acceptable;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">WHEREAS, the State of Alabama has prepared and presented Settlement Sign-On Agreements to the local governments and the City of Haleyville finds the terms of the Sign-On Agreement acceptable and in the best interest of the community;<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">WHEREAS, the current and future Settlement Agreements and Sign-On Agreements will detail the allocation of Settlement Funds, which the City of Haleyville finds acceptable and in the best interest of the community;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HALEYVILLE, ALABAMA,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">Section 1. That the City of Haleyville finds that participation in the various Opioid Settlements, Settlement Agreement and Sign-On Agreement is in the best interest of the City of Haleyville and its citizens because such a plan would ensure an effective structure for the commitment of Settlement Funds to abate and seek to resolve the opioid epidemic.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">Section 2. That the City of Haleyville hereby expresses its support for the Settlement of various Opioid claims and allocation and use of Settlement Funds as generally described in the Settlement Agreement and Sign-On Agreement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">Section 3. That the City of Haleyville\u2019s Clerk (\u201cCity Clerk\u201d) is hereby expressly authorized to execute the Settlement Sign-On Agreements and the City Clerk is hereby authorized to execute any formal agreements necessary to implement the Settlements and plan for the allocation and use of Settlement Funds.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">Section 4. That the City Clerk is hereby expressly authorized to execute any formal agreement and related documents evidencing the City of Haleyville\u2019s agreement to the settlement of claims and litigation related to the Opioid Epidemic.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">Section 5. That the City Clerk is authorized to take such other action as necessary and appropriate to effectuate the City of Haleyville\u2019s participation in any Settlement related to the Opioid Epidemic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">Section 6.
