Soon, certain offenders will be able to be cited, rather than transported to county jail. At its meeting Tuesday night, the City Council adopted an ordinance allowing for the use of Uniform Non-Traffic Citations. People charged with misdemeanors that are not violent and are unrelated to drugs or alcohol can be “cited” by officers. The defendant signs a promise to appear and is released. People should note that failure to appear is itself a crime.

The Council also awarded the North Industrial Park Road and Water System Improvements project to Tri-County Construction, Inc., and rejected all bids for the Community Storm Shelter.

An executive session was held. The next meeting of the Council will be Monday, September 19, 7 PM, City Hall.
