YAHEEEEEEEEEEE

Barry Bearden shot the Class IV Upper Factory (Old Mill) Falls on Bear Creek floatway Saturday morning, not just once, but four times. Barry and his cousin Harold put in just below the Upper Bear Creek dam and paddled their two canoes downstream to an exit location next to Highway 241, just west of Bear Creek. As Barry was making his third pass over the falls, a group of ten kayakers from Memphis arrived on their trek down the Bear Creek. All along the way, canoeurs and fishermen from Birmingham and other cites were taking advantage of the wonderful world of outdoors on the Bear Creek floatway, which is only minutes from Haleyville. TVA, who controls Bear Creek Lake, opens the floodgates every Friday afternoon through Sunday to keep the creek flushed and provide great canoeing or kayaking. For the record, Harold shot the photos, but did not shoot the falls.
