Several people visited the Chamber this past Friday, including Leah Rawls Atkins. Atkins, author of Developed for the Service of Alabama: the Centennial History of the Alabama Power Company, 1906-2006, and six other books, is a former Professor of History at Auburn University.

Atkins is also the 1953 National Competitive Water Skiing Champion and World Champ! In 1976, she became the first woman inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. In 1974, she received her Ph.D. in history from Auburn University, the first time such a degree was awarded by Auburn. She is also the founding director of the Auburn University Center for the Arts and Humanities, now called the Caroline Marshall Draughon Center.

LCH also announced that Dr. Jeff Ryan has joined the hospital staff as a general surgeon.
