The Haleyville City Council held its regular meeting Monday and discussion made clearer a possible starting date for alcohol sales in Haleyville: October 1. The city’s alcohol ordinance, in all likelihood, will be in place before then, but many factors involved in the permitting process at the local and state levels may combine to delay issuance of the first license until after the end of the fiscal year, September 30. The council may be ready by its next meeting, August 2, to present the final draft of the ordinance to the public.

The council approved a resolution recommending that the Zoning & Planning Commission approve an entertainment district.

In other action, it approved its minutes from July 6, approved general operation bills in the amount of $388,446.60, appointed Philip Weaver to the Red Cross board, and annexed the property of T & LD Pizza across from the hospital.

The next regular meeting of the council will be Monday, August 2, 7 PM, at City Hall.
