Many Gather to Wish Thomas Well in Retirement

Over 50 people gathered Wednesday to send Winston County Veterans Services Officer Dwight Thomas off to retirement after almost 23 years in the job handling the needs of the county's nearly 2,000 veterans. Thomas received high praise from the Commissioner of Veterans Affairs, Rear Adm. W. Clyde Marsh, USN (Ret.), "The veterans of Winston County have been in good hands for twenty years due to the hard work of Dwight Thomas." Currently, the nearly 2,000 veterans of Winston County receive benefits of $1 million.

The local office that Thomas manned has been closed due to proration and veterans affairs will now be handled out of the Double Springs office [Veterans Affairs Office To Close -- June 18, 2010].
