Accident Sends One to Hospital, One to Jail

A two-vehicle accident just before 9 PM Tuesday on Alabama Avenue sent one person to the hospital and another to Winston County Jail. A Honda and a Ford collided across from the location of the old Allbright store. The driver of the Ford, Russell H. Payne, 67, of Haleyville, was unharmed, but his passenger, Elouise K. Payne, also 67 of Haleyville, was extracted by Haleyville Fire/Rescue and RPS and transported to Lakeland. The driver of the Honda, Rudrigo Sandoval, 30, of Haleyville, was administered field sobriety and intoximeter tests and was taken into custody by Haleyville Police. At 10:30 PM he was transported to Winston County Jail. Sandoval has been charged with DUI.
