The City Council held its regular meeting Monday night and Mayor Ken Sunseri wanted to squash rumors circulating about the upcoming Wet/Dry vote June 1. Sunseri said “I don’t want people going out creating a bunch a rumors that aren’t factual.”

Sunseri said that there are three things he believes the council will agree to: retail sales, restaurant sales and numerous restrictions on clubs and bars “in order to avoid things like that in Haleyville.” He added “I don’t think that (the Council is) going to agree to Sunday sales.”

The city is looking at example ordinances, but the Mayor stressed “Until the vote is passed, we have not had the opportunity to sit down and discuss item-by-item … an ordinance.”

He concluded his comments by saying “The council has agreed to be as responsible as we can to the citizens of Haleyville in the ordinance we write.”

The council took the following action: approved April general operation bills of $385,035.73, approved Park & Recreation’s hiring of lifeguards and approved poll workers for the June 1 Municipal Option Election.

The next regular meeting of the council will be Monday, June 7, 7 PM, at City Hall.
