Chief Mike Gilbreath Memorial Planned

A memorial to fallen Double Springs Fire Chief Mike Gilbreath will hopefully be completed in June. The Double Springs Panorama Study Club dedicated their club year to completing the project by June.
The plans for the memorial were approved by the Double Springs City Council and the Gilbreath family. Clark Memorials, of Decatur, has been instrumental in creating a memorial that honors the life of Chief Gilbreath.
Work started last fall with a yardsale/bakesale and proceeds, along with an individual donation, raised the $3,000 for a down payment on the project. Total cost of the project upon completion will be approximately $10,000. Panorama Study Club needs the community’s help in raising the additional funds required to complete this project.
The memorial will be located at Mike Gilbreath Memorial Park, formerly known as Willow Run Park, behind the Double Springs Community Center. The five-foot-high black granite stone, bearing an etching of his likeness, turnout gear and the fireman’s prayer, will be placed on a 16-by-16 concrete pad.
Leading to the memorial will be a pathway of brick pavers. Pavers can be purchased and engraved with the donor’s name, a business name, a personal message, or in memory of someone. Donations of $75.00 to $149.00 will purchase a four-inch by eight-inch paver. Donations of $150.00 and up will purchase an eight-inch square paver. Make checks payable to Panorama Memorial Fund/Mike Gilbreath.
Anyone who wishes to purchase a paver should fill out the form provided and mail their check and form to Panorama Study Club, P.O. Box 883, Double Springs, AL 35553.
A memorial fund has been set up at T & F Bank for all donations. Anyone wishing to make a contribution rather than purchase a paver should make their checks also payable to Panorama Memorial Fund/Mike Gilbreath. Forms for pavers/contributions may also be picked up at any T & F Bank locations.
