Hazardous Scare

The Haleyville Fire and Police Departments responded to a hazardous materials call Friday morning at the old textile plant location on Alabama Avenue.  Individuals had been at the location Friday morning gathering items for recycling and found the container of hazardous materials. The individuals reported the substance was "foamy and bubbling." The Haleyville Fire Department conducted preliminary evaluations but then requested the Russellville HazMat Crew for further testing. 

At this time, the substance has not been identified. The HazMat crew has sent samples away for further testing and identification. The materials were secured and are not viewed as hazardous to people in the area. More details will be available when the test results are back.
