Man Shot To Death

Varney Ray Calloway, 54, of Helicon, is in Winston County Jail, charged with the murder of Jackie Ray Wright, 60, of Addison.

One man is dead and another is in Winston County Jail after a Wednesday evening fight ended with a man shot.

The body of Jackie Ray Wright, 60, of Addison, was found Thursday afternoon on a logging road about one-half mile off of CR40 near the Helicon community.

The Winston County Sheriff's Office received a call Wednesday just before 9 PM reporting a fight in progress on CR40, Sheriff Rick Harris said. Deputies found Wright's truck but no people. “The truck had evidence of some sort of confrontation,” Harris added.

On Thursday, Varney Ray Calloway, 54, of Helicon, was interviewed by law enforcement. Thursday afternoon, authorities found Wright's body. Later Thursday, Calloway was arrested and has been charged with Wright's murder.
