Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange and Alabama EMA Director Art Faulkner toured Haleyville's new Tornado Safe Center/Emergency Operations Center Thursday afternoon. Both officials were in town for 9-1-1 Festival activities at the Joint Readiness Center. Mayor Ken Sunseri gave Strange and Faulkner a complete tour.

Strange said that he was very impressed with the structure and the manner in which Haleyville will utilize it. “If I'm nearby in an emergency,” Strange said, “I'm coming here.”

Faulkner told Sunseri that the cost of the facility is worth what was paid, if only to save a life.

Earlier in the day Strange and Faulkner addressed law enforcement and other first responders at a private briefing at the JRC. The personnel were in town for training seminars associated with the 9-1-1 Festival.

Faulkner had high praise for Sunseri and all the emergency personnel who rendered so much assistance to neighboring communities after the April, 2011, tornado outbreak. Faulkner said, “This is a community that is prepared and knows what to do. They aren't sitting around wringing their hands.”

This was Strange's first visit to the JRC and he said, “I'll have to tell (Robert) Aderholt that I finally got to see this!”
