9-year Old Drowns

BEAR CREEK -- A 9-year old girl visiting her grandparents drowned Sunday after saving her little brother's life. 

Brandi Odom and her two brothers were wading in their grandparents' pond when one of the brothers got too deep. Odom went in to pull him to safety and she went under. The grandmother pulled the girl to land and the brother that she saved then dialed 9-1-1.

Bear Creek Fire Chief Rob Taylor said, "This is a tragedy but she gave her life to save her little brother. She is a hero."

Taylor said that he and firefighters arrived on the scene just before 5:45 PM. They discovered the girl's grandmother performing CPR. Firefighters took over CPR and the girl was transported to Lakeland Community Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
