The Winston Council Arts Council met Monday, June 25 at the Lakeshore Restaurant in Double Springs. At the meeting, J.D. The Alabama Bicentennial Commission awarded $5,000 to fund a bicentennial ornaments project whereas each elementary student in the county will be able to design and paint two Christmas ornaments with the Alabama Bicentennial theme-one to take home and one to put on their respective town’s Christmas tree. The ornaments will be on display at each town’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony and during the entire holiday. They will then be taken down, stored and used in upcoming years.

The second grant is the Art in Action Judy Sleeth Scholarship. This program is a full curriculum, including art appreciation and creative art projects for three elementary classes, with twelve lessons in each class. Also included is a year of an online curriculum. Plus materials needed to teach the art lessons.
