The Haleyville City Council met Monday morning and approved the FY-2015-16 audit as presented by Dicky Sparks, CPA, from Red Bay. Spanks has audited the city’s finances for many years and spoke highly of the city employees who were always the most professional and prepared and praised the city as a whole. He stated the city is in great financial shape.
Two former police vehicles, a 2003 and a 2005 Ford Crown Victorias were declared as “surplus” and can be sold to the highest bidder.
The council failed to hire an Acting City Clerk to replace Debra Hood who will be retiring this year. Richard Bittinger made a motion to hire Emily Farris but failed to get a majority vote from the Council. Royce Benefield made a motion to hire Christy Harbin, which also failed to get a majority vote. With no other motions, no one was hired, which necessitated the postponement of two other items on the agenda. The appointment of an acting revenue/clerk accounts payable clerk and advertising for an assistant account payable clerk were effectively tabled.
The Council did approve the advertising for a full-time policeman and part-time dispatcher. They also approved the purchase of a used pickup for use by the Street Department.
The next regular meeting of the Haleyville City Council will be Monday.
