Haleyville, Double Springs, Arley

Free Preparation of Federal and State Returns for Tax Year 2017 will be available from the Winston County AARP Tax-Aide sites with locations in Haleyville and Double Springs.  Volunteers will prepare and electronically file federal and state tax returns for taxpayers with low and middle incomes.  You do not have to be a member of AARP, a retiree, or a certain age to use this service. Please note that those taxpayers with complex tax returns will be advised to seek professional tax assistance. These tax sites were developed thru collaboration between the IRS, AARP Tax-Aide, Mayor Robinson of Double Springs and Mayor Sunseri of Haleyville.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, the nation’s largest free, volunteer-run tax assistance and preparation program, was founded in 1968 by four AARP volunteers. Today, more than 35,000 volunteers in all 50 states and the District of Columbia serve at 6,100+ Tax-Aide sites from February 1 to April 15. Since its inception, this program has helped nearly 50 million low- to moderate-income taxpayers.  AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers are trained and IRS-certified each year to ensure they know about and understand the latest changes and additions to the U.S. Tax Code.

Individuals should bring:

• Photo proof of identification
• Social Security cards for themselves, their spouse, and dependents or Social Security number verification letters issued by the Social Security Administration
• Birth dates for all persons listed on the tax return
• Wage and earning statement(s) Forms W-2, W-2G, and 1099-R, from all employers and Social Security
• Interest and dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099)
• Copies of last year’s federal and state returns, if available
• Bank routing and account numbers for direct deposit of refunds
• Other relevant information about income and expenses
• Amounts paid for day care, if applicable, and the daycare provider’s identifying number.

Haleyville (Old 14^th Avenue Elementary School – Chamber of Commerce conference room), at 2324 14^th Avenue Suite B, tax preparation will be on Tuesday, February 6; March 6, and April 3 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Double Springs (Town Hall courtroom) at 21 Main Street, tax preparation will be on Wednesday, February 7; March 7 and April 4 from 9:00 a. m. – 3:00 p.m.
