Haleyville City Council
The Haleyville City Council met Monday, May 16 with Councilman Blue Russell absent. The April bills and purchase orders totaling $520,375.37 was approved. The Council approved four resolutions.
Resolution 22-17 was a change order for the Lakeland Parking Lot resurfacing. $10,443.79 was approved to balance the cover the actual quantiles of asphalt needed for the project.
Resolution 22-18 was an Engineering Agreement with the Cassady Company to provide services for the Brookhaven project not to exceed $20,500.
Resolution 22-19 authorized the Cassady Company to advertise for bids to complete work in the Brookhaven Subdivision. Funds have been received from the Rebuild Alabama Act Annual Grant Program to resurface the streets in Brookhaven.
Resolution 22-2 changes the amount to be paid to the Cassady Company on the Industrial Access Road for widening and resurfacing of the Botush Industrial Park. The actual Engineering Design Service will be provided by others.
The City of Haleyville are seeking two full time street and sanitation employees. Applications are available at city hall. The next scheduled City Council meeting will be Monday, June 6, 5:30 p.m. at the Haleyville City Hall.

Motorcycle Crash Claims Life of Double Springs Man
HaMILTON POST – A single-vehicle crash at approximately 12:45 a.m. Monday, May 16, has claimed the life of a Double Springs man. Rickie R. Garrison, 67, was fatally injured when the 1999 Harley-Davidson motorcycle he was operating left the roadway and struck a ditch. Garrison was pronounced deceased at the scene. The crash occurred on Alabama 195 near the 16 mile marker, approximately three miles south of Double Springs, in Winston County. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate – Corporal Reginal M. King

Haleyville City Council Meeting May 2, 2022
The Haleyville City Council met Monday, May 2nd with all members present. The council voted on four items that were on the regular agenda. The council voted to accept a proposal from Great Southern Recreation for the installation of the artificial turf at the Heart of Haleyville Park being built downtown. Council member Drew Thrasher voted against the resolution, with all other members voting yes. With the resolution’s approval, $10,185.00 will be allocated from Haleyville’s General Fund for the project. Additional funding will be $15,000.00 from Haleyville’s 9-1-1 Commission, and $10,000.00 from the Haleyville Chamber of Commerce.The council also voted to approve a proposal for landscaping at the Heart of Haleyville Park. Bradley Tucker of Greener Expectations proposed to install mulch and plant 35 holly bushes at the park for a total cost of $3,817.00 for the project. In addition, the city agreed to provide one load of topsoil to assist with the work.
The council unanimously voted to allow bids to be accepted for resurfacing and widening County Road 90 for a short distance at the Botush Industrial Park. This project will provide better access for trucks and other traffic at Bassett Furniture Industries, a major employer in the area. The Alabama Department of Transportation must first issue its approval for accepting bids, then project engineers The Cassidy Company, Inc. will begin advertising for bids within 30 days. Once those bids are received, they will go before the council for review.
The final item on the agenda was to approve a sealed bid from C&C Lawn Care for maintenance work at Hill Crest Cemetery. C&C will perform grass cutting and debris removal on a biweekly basis for the sum of $650 per bi-weekly maintenance session. The only other bid received for the job was from Adam Carter, who bid $700 biweekly or $500 weekly.
The next regular meeting of the Haleyville City Council is set for May 16th.

Mike Clark for Winston County Sheriff
Mike Clark sees three main problems with the Winston County Sheriff’s office, and if elected will use his 25 years of law enforcement experience to offer the following solutions:
Clark said citizens have a right to expect an immediate response from the department when needed. That has not always been the case. Speeding up response times to citizens of Winston County is the best way to increase their safety and discourage crimes.
Another important factor is increasing cooperation between the department and other law enforcement agencies to increase the efficiency of criminal investigations. By pooling and coordinating talent and resources, more cases can be solved in a timely manner.
Clark said his third point will be working to eliminate drug use in our area, which has risen to an epidemic level. Winston County residents should not be subjected to the constant dangers of illicit drugs.
Clark wants to use his 25 years of law enforcement experience to implement these positive changes in our community, and respectfully requests your vote in the upcoming election.

Haleyville City Council Meeting
The Haleyville City Council met Monday, April 18, with all members present. $477, 686.22 was approved for the General Operation Bills and Purchasing Orders for March 2022. The School Board Election date was set for July 12, 2022.
Carla Waldrep, from The Haleyville Library, made an informative presentation concerning some upcoming, in-house programs, and the availability of wi-fi hot-spots for check out. Haleyville City Council Meeting
Monday, 4 April City Council Meeting was attended by all Council members, except “Blue”Russell. The following Resolutions were discussed and approved:
RESOLUTION # 2022-09: Additional striping work to include the crosswalk from the Hospital’s Helicopter Pad to the Emergency Room and striping in the maintenance area
RESOLUTION # 2022-10: The City of Haleyville has been approved for Alabama Industrial Access Road and Bridge Corporation Grant funding through ALDOT for widening and resurfacing of Botush Industrial Park.
RESOLUTION # 2022-11: Widening and resurfacing of CR-90 from the intersection with SR-13 to approximately 1,035 ft. east
Councilman Ray Boshell discussed the success of the past HHS Prom weekend, He applauded the efforts made by parents and community to make safe pre and post-prom events available.
