  • Homicide Victims Names Released

    As of Wednesday, May 2, 2018, officers from the State Bureau of Investigation, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, the Alabama Drug Enforcement Task Force and the 14th Judicial District Attorney’s Office continue to investigate a double homicide which occurred at 15525 County Road 63 Carbon Hill, Alabama.  The two victims have been identified as Hernan Antonio Padilla, 55, and Allen Clifford Sandlin, 56.  Officers continue to investigate the events which led up to the two men’s deaths and at this point, no other information is available as this is an ongoing investigation. – ALEA

  • Double Homicide in Fayette

    From ALEA:

    On Tuesday, May 1, 2018, police officers and deputies from Fayette and Walker Counties responded to a residence on Fayette County Highway 63 after a subject called 911 to request help at the residence.  Upon their arrival, the officers located two deceased male subjects, the scene was secured and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office requested that the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.  Currently, officers from the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, the Carbon Hill Police Department, the Berry Police Department, and the 14th Judicial District Attorney’s Office are on the scene and it is being treated as a double homicide.  Anyone with any information related to the investigation is encouraged to contact local law enforcement.  No further details are available as this is an ongoing investigation.

  • Softball Update on the Update

    The Haleyville Lady Lions Softball team defeated Fayette this morning 7-4 in the opening game of the 4A regional state playoffs. The next game for the Lions is scheduled for 1:45 against Winfield who defeated Hamilton this morning.

  • All Day Softball State Playoffs Tuesday

    The state playoffs for girls high school softball begins on Tuesday with all day double elimination to determine the winning team which can continue forward with in the playoffs, until a state champion team is determined with the state finals.

    The Haleyville Lady Lions will be playing in the starting game at 9 a.m. against the Fayette Tigers. “The winner will play again at 1:45. After the first game at 9 a.m,  game times are scheduled for 10:30,  12:15, 1:45, 3:15, 5 and 6:30.

    The games Haleyville will be playing can be heard live on Paradise 92.7. Airtime, just before 9 a.m. Tuesday morning.

  • HHS Baseball Season Ends

    The Haleyville High Lions Baseball Team ended their season Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 loss to Oneonta in the third game following a win and a loss on Friday night. The first game Friday ended Haleyville 6-1 over Oneonta. The second game was a Oneonta win, 5-3.

    Congratulations to the Haleyville High Baseball Team and Coach Todd McNutt for a great season.

  • Seven Years Ago Today

    2011 Tornado Remembrance

    Today marks the 7th anniversary since the April 27, 2011 tornado outbreak. It has become an annual tradition for us to post this video showing the names of the victims from the 4th District. It's not until you see the names and the sheer number of them, that you realize the impact of that dark day in our history. On this anniversary, I pray for the families of all those who were lost, as I know this is always a difficult day to get through.

  • Special Scholarships

    HHS is excited to announce that Lauren Watkins and Garrett Tinch have each been awarded Hagan Scholarships. These scholarships total $40,000, plus a Schwab Scholar Account. Lauren and Garrett are the very first Haleyville High School recipients of this scholarship, as only 350 are given out nationwide.

  • Jasper Correctional Officer Arrested

    Russell Damon Boyd was arrested late Monday, April 23, 2018, after an investigation revealed probable cause to believe he had inappropriate sexual contact with multiple female inmates incarcerated at the Jasper City Jail.

    Boyd, 51, served as a Correctional Officer for the City of Jasper until December 2017, when he began a field training program as part of a transition from Correctional Officer to a Police Officer for the City of Jasper.  In January 2018, officials with the City of Jasper Police Department contacted the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) and requested that an investigation into allegations that Boyd inappropriately touched or sexually assaulted a female inmate incarcerated at the Jasper City Jail.  SBI Special Agents presented the findings of the investigation to the Walker County District Attorney’s Office for review and warrants for Boyd were obtained.  Boyd was incarcerated at the Walker County Detention Facility on Monday, April 23, 2018, where he received a $20,000 bond.  No other information is available at this time.
