  • Helping Myleigh See

Shane Cook, Randall Foster, Myleigh Davis, Candice Davis, Bobby Taylor

The Haleyville Lions Club recently donated $500 to help Meleigh Davis to see. Her story is below and she can use your help.

Myleigh is 10 years old and has been diagnosed with Stargardt’s disease, an inherited condition that causes vision loss at a very young age. As a result, she can only see her surroundings in a blur of shapes, colors, and motions. Just recently, however, Myleigh experienced a miracle when she tried on eSight, a pair of electronic glasses, that allowed her to see 20/10 (even better than ‘perfect’ vision!). Her whole family was overwhelmed by just how amazing the outcome was, but they, unfortunately, cannot afford the $5,000 down payment for Myleigh to get a pair of her own.

Myleigh wants eSight so she can experience the little things that many of us take for granted. She wants to actually see the trees during her hikes, read sheet music while playing the piano, recognize her favorite animals at the zoo, and play normally with her sister and friends.

Please help with a donation by clicking on her name if you have Facebook: Myleigh

  • Motocyclist Seriously Injured in Crash

Friday evening at approximately 10 p.m. a vehicle and motorcycle collided in front of Goars Market on Highway 13. Daniel Berry, 39 of Haleyville, the rider of the bike was transported to UAB in Birmingham with multiple injuries including two broken legs. He is scheduled for surgery Monday. Reportedly, the vehicle pulled out in front of the moving motorcycle. Just a reminder that many riders are out during the summer months and to take an extra moment to look for the single headlight approaching and give way for the bikes. You could save someone’s life.

  • Statement on Lakeland Hospital

Following the indictment of State Representative Ed Henry on June 7, a principal with the Java Group which has a contract to manage the operation of Lakeland Community Hospital, Mayor Ken Sunseri issued a public statement on the subject.

Mayor Sunseri expressed the concern for the charges against Representative Ed Henry and stated the allegations are related to a company he owned prior to his involvement with the Java Medical Group, LLC. Sunseri stated Mr. Henry will not be involved in any of the continued operations of Lakeland. He stressed that none of the allegations against Henry involve Java Medical, Lakeland Community Hospital or the Haleyville/Winston Health Care Authority.

Martha McCormick, CHC, is serving as the interim Administrator until a permanent replacement is named.

Mayor Sunseri stated that Ms. McCormick has extensive experience with rural hospitals and her commitment to the success of the hospital has already been felt during the transition. He also stated Lakeland Community Hospital Nurses, Staff, Physicians, Hospital Board and the City of Haleyville are committed to ensuring that all will have the finest care possible for the community.
