The Rev. Sid Burgess, 70, a former pastor at the Edgewood Presbyterian Church from 1990 through 2013 in Homewood and an avid hiker was last seen at 11 a.m. Saturday at White Creek Falls in Double Springs. His vehicle was later found at the entrance to Randolph Trailhead where he had entered for a day hike. Although hampered by rain and nighttime darkness, over the weekend, search teams continued looking until he was located alive just before noon Tuesday, April 9. He was transported by ambulance to Princeton in Birmingham. Approximately 200 people are reported missing in the Bankhead every year. Fortunately, like Burgess, most all have a good ending.
