• Statement on Lakeland Hospital

Following the indictment of State Representative Ed Henry on June 7, a principal with the Java Group which has a contract to manage the operation of Lakeland Community Hospital, Mayor Ken Sunseri issued a public statement on the subject.

Mayor Sunseri expressed the concern for the charges against Representative Ed Henry and stated the allegations are related to a company he owned prior to his involvement with the Java Medical Group, LLC. Sunseri stated Mr. Henry will not be involved in any of the continued operations of Lakeland. He stressed that none of the allegations against Henry involve Java Medical, Lakeland Community Hospital or the Haleyville/Winston Health Care Authority.

Martha McCormick, CHC, is serving as the interim Administrator until a permanent replacement is named.

Mayor Sunseri stated that Ms. McCormick has extensive experience with rural hospitals and her commitment to the success of the hospital has already been felt during the transition. He also stated Lakeland Community Hospital Nurses, Staff, Physicians, Hospital Board and the City of Haleyville are committed to ensuring that all will have the finest care possible for the community.
