    A two-vehicle crash at 5:25 p.m. Friday, March 31, has claimed the life of a Sheffield man.  Mark Edward Horton, 45, was killed when the 1986 Mazda B2000 he was driving collided with a 2005 Dodge Caravan driven by Hallie Carlita Cravens, 29, of Florence. Horton, who was not using a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. Cravens and the vehicle’s passenger Michael Adam Wallis, 27, of Madison were both transported to ECM Hospital in Florence. The crash occurred on Alabama 20 at the 13-mile marker, eight miles north of Florence.  Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.

    A single-vehicle crash at 9 p.m. Friday, March 31, has claimed the life of a Bremen man.  Johnny Lynn Jones, 56, was seriously injured when the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado he was driving left the roadway and overturned. Jones, who was not using a seatbelt, was transported to Walker Baptist Medical Center in Jasper where he was pronounced dead at 10:07 p.m. The vehicle’s passenger, Keith Ross Odom, 27, of Pinson was transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham.  The crash occurred on Alabama 69 near the 212-mile marker, three miles north of Boldo.  Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.

  • Opening Day for Sports Complex

    Mayor Ken Sunseri threw out the first pitch on field 3 at the new Haleyville Sports Complex Saturday morning, April 1. A large crowd attended the opening ceremonies of the new facility which featured the introduction of the city council and Dixie Youth volunteers. The multi-million dollar complex still has a few minor items to complete but is already in full use. If you have not seen it in person, drive up 9th Avenue and see the newest addition to the assets of the City of Haleyville.
