• Escaped Inmates

    Inmates Cory Dean and Zepplin Kennedy escaped from the Marion County Jail at 1:32 AM on March 17, 2017. Dean is a 22-year-old white male and charged with burglary 3rd (7 counts), criminal mischief 3rd, criminal mischief 2nd, arson 2nd, and discharging a firearm into an unoccupied dwelling. Kennedy is a 20-year-old white male and charged with possession of pornography (31 counts) and production of pornography with a minor. Kennedy was last seen with a gray sweatshirt and white pants. Dean was last seen with gray short sleeve thirst and gray sweatpants. Subjects are being tracked by Alabama Department of Corrections K-9 Unit along with K-9 units with the Marion County Sheriff’s Department.

  • T-Ball Time

    The Haleyville Park & Recreation Department is holding T-Ball registration on March 20– April 7.   T-Ball is for boys and girls ages 5 & 6.  Your Child must be 5 on or before June 30, 2018.  The cost of registration is $35.00 per child.  A family discount will apply.  Registration hours will be Monday, Wednesday & Friday 8 am til 5 pm.  Tuesday’s & Thursday’s hours are am till 6 pm at the Haleyville Park & Rec.  For more information call (205)486-3532.

  • AMBER ALERT

    The State of Alabama has issued a Child Abduction Emergency, Amber Alert on behalf of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency ask for your assistance in locating Mary Catherine “Elizabeth” Thomas, white female, 15 years of age, 5′ 5″ tall weighing 120 pounds with blond hair and hazel eyes. Elizabeth Thomas was seen last wearing a flannel shirt and black leggings on March 13, 2017, and is believed to be in extreme danger. Elizabeth Thomas is believed to be in the company of 50-year-old Tad Cummins, white male, 6′ tall, weighing 200 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. The subjects are believed to be traveling in a silver Nissan Rogue bearing TN tag number 976ZPT.   • ARC Easter Pageant

    The ARC Easter pageant will be April 1 at 5 p.m at the Haleyville Elementary cafetorium, It is for girls ages 1-12. Entry forms are available at the ARC, the Sunrise shop, Dr. Palmer’s office, and the Neighborhood Facilities Building. Rehearsal will be March 30, 4:30-6 p.m. at Haleyville Elementary

  • Bolling Gets 2 Years

    George R. Bolling, Jr, 55, was sentenced to two years in a federal prison for illegally dispensing opioid painkillers and other controlled substances. He was also sentenced on two counts of illegally transferring oxycodone, an opioid painkiller, between pharmacies he owned in Walker and Fayette counties. Bolling pleaded guilty to the charges in October of last year and will begin serving his sentence on May 8. The five pharmacies Bolling owned were located Berry, Fayette, Vernon, Jasper and Gateway Discount Apothecary in Double Springs. Bolling sold his pharmacies and as part of his plea and sentence, has forfeited his DEA registration numbers and his Pharmacy permits and license number. He also forfeited $75,000 to the government as proceeds of illegal activity. Bolling’s conviction was the result of a long-term investigation started in 2015.

     

  • HES Kindergarten Registration

    Haleyville City Schools will hold kindergarten registration on Friday, March 17, 2017, from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.   Registration will be held at the Haleyville Elementary School library.  A child being registered for kindergarten must be five (5) years old on or before September 1, 2017, before he/she can attend school for the 2017-2018 school year.  Due to current Board of Education policy, only students currently living in the Haleyville City school district will be allowed to register.  Parents or guardians registering prospective kindergarten students are encouraged to bring the following:

    1. The child’s birth certificate
    2. Blue immunization certificate showing that the child has had all of the required immunizations:  D.P.T., polio, measles, and mumps.  ALABAMA STATE LAW REQUIRES PROOF OF THE IMMUNIZATIONS BEFORE A CHILD CAN ENTER KINDERGARTEN OR FIRST GRADE
    3. Social Security Card
    4. Proof of residency
    5. Custody Papers (if applicable)
    6. Driver’s License of parent/guardian

    A team of Kindergarten teachers will be administering the HES Kindergarten Screener to all children who will attend kindergarten in the fall of 2017.  Thus, it will be necessary for you to bring your pre-school child with you to registration so we can administer this short screening instrument.  We plan to make this a fun experience for the children.  You can help by planning to make this a special outing for you and your pre-schooler.  In an effort to avoid over-crowded conditions and give each child individual attention, we ask that you adhere to the following schedule:

    LAST NAMES BEGINNING WITH        A-L 8:30-11:30           M-Z 12:00-2:30

    We realize that some of your work and can only come at certain times.  We will adjust our schedule to accommodate working parents.

    It is important that all parents or guardians register eligible children on March 17.
